Choir leader facing allegations of decades-old sex crimes

Many Pennsylvania residents are surprised to learn that they may be indicted for sex crimes allegations even after several decades have passed. One Pennsylvania man who founded a top boys’ choir has been accused of rape and other sex crimes in connection with an incident that occurred back in July 1996. The man, now 74, allegedly raped a 15-year-old boy during that encounter. The victim reportedly came forward this month to accuse the defendant, who has been the only director of the Singing Boys of Pennsylvania since its inception in 1970. Official reports show that the defendant is facing a rape charge, along with indecent sexual assault of a person younger than 16 years old. Additional charges include aggravated indecent assault on a person younger than 16 years old. Statutory sexual assault is also alleged. Administrators with the choir, which caters to boys ages 8 to 14, have said that spring 2014 programs will continue as planned, despite the pending criminal proceedings. The choir, which often partners with its counterpart Keystone Girls Choir, is known as the most-traveled choir in the state of Pennsylvania. It is not yet clear whether the defendant will play a role in the choir’s performance this season. Criminal defendants who are facing “cold case” sexual assault charges may benefit from seeking the help of a Pennsylvania attorney. These legal professionals may provide additional information that can help those who are facing allegations that have only come to light after several decades of silence. Such defendants may have special needs, which may be accommodated by a skilled criminal defense lawyer. No one should have to face such serious allegations of sexual misconduct on their own.
