Drunk driving, child endangerment charges against Washington woman

Drunk driving is often associated with other crimes because when people drive drunk they are making a poor decision that will likely affect other decisions. Some other crimes generally associated with drunk driving include fleeing the scene, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and drug possession. When children are involved, however, the court will usually hand down the strictest of penalties to the convicted. Earlier this week, Washington County police arrested a woman on several charges, including drunk driving and child endangerment, after police were called to the scene for a disturbance. This isn’t the 34-year-old Chartiers woman’s first arrest of such a nature. She was arrested and placed in jail for the same charges in 2008. In fact, the woman has been arrested at least nine times in the last fourteen years. When asked about sentencing, Washington County Deputy D.A. Dennis Paluso said that “her background will be taken into account,” because “she has a history of placing children in danger.” The suspect’s criminal record includes charges for DUI, child endangerment, resisting arrest, assault, and drug possession. Just earlier this month, the woman pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct arrest. Another case, drug-related, was sent to the Court of Common Pleas. During her court appearance on Tuesday, District Judge Robert Redlinger ordered the woman to serve time at the Washington County Jail after she was charged with drunk driving, aggravated assault, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, endangering the welfare of children, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and indecent exposure. There is currently no hearing scheduled for the suspect and there was no defense attorney listed for her either. Calls to the woman’s family went unreturned. Police were called to a Donnan Avenue apartment early Tuesday morning at about 1 a.m. when a disturbance was reported. A person who lives at the apartment told officers that the woman drover herself and a child to the address for reasons that are still being debated. The child was confirmed as hers. Witnesses say the woman took her clothes off in front of her child, then an argument between her and a 23-year-old woman began. That woman was charged with harassment. When police broke up the argument, the woman 34-year-old woman allegedly spat on and kicked one of the officers. The officer says that she continued to spit at and on him and other officers after being led into the police station. In 2012, the woman was arrested on child endangerment charges after an altercation at the home of her child’s father. The charge was dropped when the woman pleaded guilty to harassment. Earlier, in 2008, police from North Strabane arrested the woman because when they found her drunk inside of her car. The car had two flat tires, was sitting on a railroad track, there was a open can of beer in the front seat, and her 8-month-old was crying in the back in his car seat.
