High speed chase ends in two arrests

On Monday, police charged two men who led officers on a fifteen mile chase through several neighborhoods, a park, and three major roadways. The incident began when police attempted to pull over a silver Dodge Stratus driven by a 35-year-old from Ross Township at about 4 p.m. near Heron Avenue in the Hill District. The driver and his passengers-a 32-year-old from Boulder, CO and an unidentified female-fled across the Liberty Bridge onto the Parkway East outbound, into Squirrel Hill, through Schenley Park, onto the Boulevard of the Allies, onto Crosstown Boulevard, and outbound onto Route 28 before final being stopped just past the 31st Street Bridge. Police said the driver immediately surrendered, his speech slurred. The 32-year-old passenger had to be forcibly removed from the car and both were taken to UPMC Mercy to be evaluated before ending up at the Allegheny County Jail. Upon inspection, officers found a syringe, a crack pipe, and a prescription bottle of painkillers in the truck. Police say the vehicle was stolen. Police said during the course of the pursuit the woman could be seen pounding on the back window and yelling for help.At least four other vehicles were damaged during the chase. The driver is being charged with reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance, fleeing police, driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft, receiving stolen property, kidnapping, and traffic violations. The 32-year-old passenger is being charged with possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also wanted on a warrant from North Fayette.
