PA man admits to federal crimes, sells chemical warfare agents to Syrians

Pittsburgh Federal Crimes Attorney

Committing federal crimes generally comes stacked with a sizable prison sentence and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines, court costs, and restitution. If you have been arrested and charged with a federal crime, it’s important to understand that not just any criminal defense attorney will suffice. You’re going to be dealing with some of the top prosecutors in the country. As such, you should seek out a powerful advocate who understands federal laws and who has built a reputation from themselves that is respected by both local and federal officials alike.

Man charged with selling to Syrians

On Wednesday, a man from Susquehanna County in northeastern Pennsylvania admitted to illegally sending lab equipment to Syria, according to the United States Attorney General’s Office. Some of that equipment, according to reports, is used to detect chemical warfare agents. The 72-year-old man from Hallstead man is a seemingly credulous suspect, but his crimes are very real, especially with the state of the world. Before federal investigators, the man admitted that his partners in Syria falsified invoices and depreciated items and wrote erroneous labels on shipments in an effort to help his foreign cohorts. In addition, the man also provided fake information about the location and identity of his Syrian constituents. According to reports, those items were sent to Syria and to other places in the world where Syrian Islamist extremists are congregating, such as U.A.E., Jordan, and the U.K. The suspect is facing a maximum prison sentence of five years, three years of probation, and a $250,000 fine when all is said and done. Federal officials are continuing to investigate the situation and there is still no word on whether or not they have a lead on the Syrians with whom the suspect was involved.
