Allentown man arrested for 50 sex crimes
An Allentown, Pennsylvania, man is facing sex crimes charges after authorities reportedly found hundreds of child pornography files on his personal computer. The man, who is also accused of taping a sexual assault on a minor, is charged with 50 counts of possession of child pornography, along with indecent assault, disseminating photographs of sex acts and a variety of other crimes. Officers said they were able to positively identify the man in the videos thanks to a tattoo he has on his hand. Authorities report that the 43-year-old man had been using the Internet servers in a commercial building to download and distribute the porn. Officers had been investigating the Internet usage at the businesses as early as April. They noticed two downloaded files on April 27 and May 2. Both of those files include girls as young as 10 exposing themselves to the camera. After interviewing employees at the business, they were able to identify the defendant, who worked for Lehigh Valley Patios and Sunrooms. Coworkers said the man did not have a driver’s license, so he would sometimes sleep in the basement of the facility when he worked late and could not get home. Employees also told investigators that the man used a laptop while at work, and he would often complain when the Internet service stopped functioning. The owner of that business reported that the defendant had thrown his laptop in the trash just days before he was apprehended. The laptop was located, and the hard drive was found in the basement of the building. Additional evidence on the man’s cellphone showed a video of a man assaulting a 7-year-old child. The tattoos on the man’s hand matched those that were seen in the video. Even though the man’s alleged acts may seem reprehensible, he has a right to the same unbiased criminal proceeding available to all other defendants in the nation. Our criminal justice system should work to protect the man’s rights while ensuring that justice is executed in the case.
