Illegal immigrant suspect in Route 28 death has laundry list of other citations

On Monday, we blogged about an accident on Route 28 in Shaler that left one man dead. He was killed when the tire of trailer being towed by a Ford F-450 fell off, bounced over the Jersey barrier, and struck a 75-year-old man’s vehicle, killing him but leaving his wife unharmed in the back seat. The man driving had no license and no proof of insurance. It was found out by police that he is an illegal immigrant from Mexico. He did get a New Mexico driver’s license in 2010, but it was revoked in 2012 when authorities figured out that he had fraudulently earned because he was never a resident of New Mexico. He currently lives in Kentucky and upon further investigation, Pittsburgh police found out that he has been cited at least three time in Kentucky for driving without a license, including one citation for both driving without a license and driving without insurance, according to a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesperson. The trailer in question was registered in Kentucky, according to the spokesperson. The suspect’s Ford F-450 had an expired North Carolina registration from 2012 at the time of the accident, according to North Carolina traffic and highway spokesperson, who talked to reporters earlier this week. Police from Allegheny County told reporters that they have notified Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement about the arrest. There still has been no concrete confirmation that the suspect is an illegal immigrant on the federal level, but all state officials agree that he is in fact illegally residing in this country. Police are still investigating as to whom the suspect and his passengers were working for at the time of the accident. He is currently sitting in an Allegheny County Jail cell on $250,000 bail with a preliminary hearing set for 2 December. If you have been arrested are not a legal resident of the United States, you will need an experienced criminal defense attorney to ensure you’re treated fairly are given due process, regardless of your status.
