Man charged with drunk driving, other crimes, after accident in Fallowfield

Drunk driving in and around Pittsburgh can you into a lot of trouble. Whether you’re just barely over the legal limit or you’ve had way too much, drunk driving is a terrible mistake. When someone is hurt or killed by a drunk driver, that person can find themselves in serious trouble, serving a long jail sentence, and ruining many parts of their lives. If you have been busted for drunk driving and someone was hurt in the process, you WILL need a quality defense. Attorney Gary Gerson can provide that defense and ensure that you are fairly treated throughout the criminal process. A man from Fallowfield is being accused of drunk driving and other charges after he caused a two-vehicle accident last Thursday. The 60-year-old Smith Street man was driving along Coyle Curtin Road at 5 p.m. when he crossed the double yellow lines and barreled into a Mazda sport-utility vehicle that was being driven by another Fallowfield man. PA state police from the barracks in Belle Vernon filed drunk driving charges and other charges against the man on Friday in front of District Judge Larry Hopkins in Charleroi. A passenger in the Mazda told police that she saw the suspect’s Honda cross into their lane before the accident occurred. Another witness told police that he saw the suspect leave a bar just moments earlier and was driving behind him when the accident happened. The victim was rushed to Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll, PA after firefighters had to chop the roof off of the SUV to get to him. The passengers in the vehicle did not need medical attention. When a state trooper asked the suspect what happened, he said that the victim crashed into him. That same trooper also said that he smelled a strong odor of alcohol when he was talking to the suspect. The suspect refused field sobriety tests and told the trooper to call his lawyer. The suspect was taken to the same hospital at around 6 p.m. where he refused to be medically tested. He was eventually released from the hospital and was picked up by a relative. The following day, the victim told PA state police that he suffered a concussion, hearing loss, and a strained neck. The suspect will be charged with aggravated assault while DUI, drunk driving, careless driving, speeding, and failing to keep right.
