Wilkinsburg girl admits to trying to set guard on fire

Juvenile crimes like assault and attempted murder may have your child tried as an adult if the case goes to court. Those who have children who are arrested for juvenile crimes should speak to an attorney about your defense. A good defense lawyer on your side may be the difference between in your child’s life. You may have recently heard about a 16-year-old girl who tried to set a security guard on fire at Wilkinsburg High School. The criminal complaint says that the crime was committed as payback for an earlier confrontation, according to police. The girl is being charged as an adult with aggravated assault, risking a catastrophe, reckless endangerment, and bringing a weapon onto school property. She was arraigned Tuesday and jailed on $100,000 bail. Police said the girl doused a security guard with gasoline on Monday morning shortly after students began entering the school. Some of the gas spilled onto another guard as well. After the girl doused the guard with gasoline, he grabbed the girl by the throat, pushed her against a wall, and threw her to the floor as she was reaching for her pocket to grab a lighter. Police say the girl told them she tried to light the guard on fire because he escorted her from school last Friday after she was caught using her mobile phone in class. Police say she returned to school later that day to get something to eat at the after-school food program. When the guard escorted her again away from the school, she threw a milk carton at his head. The girl has since told police he grabbed her by the neck, put her in a headlock, and threatened to bite her when she refused to leave last Friday. Police also say she admitted to pouring the gasoline on the guard and trying to set him on fire. It is currently unknown whether she has an attorney.
