Man indicted on sex crimes for making and sharing child pornography

Pittsburgh Sex Crimes Lawyer

As a Pittsburgh sex crimes attorney, I have dealt with people from all walks of life who were arrested for various different reasons. Of course, many cases come about due to rape and assault, but more and more we’re seeing a lot of cases of people who have been arrested for possessing and distributing child pornography. Ask most and they’ll agree that possessing child pornography is an unforgivable crime, that people who possess and distribute child porn deserve everything they get; however, I’ve talked to many people who were arrested on similar charges who had no idea they possessed such pictures or videos and didn’t even know they were sharing due to the fact that many of these images are encrypted in viruses and firewall-based downloads.

Severe penalties for sex crimes

It’s important to understand that making, receiving, and even looking at child pornography is a crime that carries with it penalties from both the state and federal levels. For example, a first-time offender who is arrested for making pornographic images or videos that depict minors can do anywhere between fifteen and thirty years in jail. In fact, according to the United States Department of Justice, any picture that may be teetering the line will be treated as child pornography. And consent age does not apply whatsoever. That means that if you have pictures or video of a minor doing suggestive things, then it is considered illegal, no questions asked.

Man arrested for making and sharing child pornography

Recently, a Pennsylvania man was arrested on several counts of child pornography. He was also charged with three counts of privacy invasion and a count of what police call “criminal use of a communication facility.” After searching the man’s home and computer, they were able to a number of files that contained pornographic pictures and videos of children between the ages of six and seven, as well as home video taken of two underage girls through a window in their home. The man was able to be caught through high activity in a media-sharing network. And through the man’s IP address, investigators were able to track him at his home.
